Are you planning to ask the hand of your loved one or loved one? Then Saturday would be a good time for it.

According to surveys, an above-average number of marriage proposals are made in Germany on Saturdays. And traditionally, most wedding celebrations also take place on this day of the week.

Reason enough to take a closer look at engagement and marriage today. The internet portal Elite Partners asked its members about it.

The main results

► One in four women and one in five men believe that marriage is unconditional proof of love. On the other hand, 21 percent take a very pragmatic view of marriage and enter into it primarily for financial reasons.

► In eight out of ten cases, the man makes the application. But: For 34 percent of those surveyed, it is irrelevant which of the two dares to take the first step to hold the hand of the other.

► Every second person is of the opinion that before marriage you should have lived together for a few years – ideally three years.

► Also interesting: According to the survey, seven percent of men and three percent of women marry because they believe that the promise of marriage protects against infidelity…

► For 15 percent of Germans, a marriage contract is a mandatory part of marriage.

► And at least every tenth German can’t do anything with a yes word and would never get married in his life.

Lisa Fischbach, psychologist and research director at Elite Partner, analyzed and classified the survey results.

She says: “The age at marriage has been increasing steadily for the past 30 years, and this is true for both genders. Many young people today first want to advance their professional career and only then start a family.”

In general, there is less social pressure these days. Therefore, there is more room for a voluntary decision to marry. The fact is: Since 2001 (with the exception of the first two Corona years), more and more people have been married again.

“The trend can be explained by the desire for more safety, security and stability,” says the expert. Especially in fast-moving and uncertain times with difficult global political events and climate crises, many people would seek support in social relationships and want to commit themselves in the long term.

Fischbach: “The Corona crisis has increased this need, so that the trend will continue or even increase.”
