Recommendations of the Editorial team

Sarah Michelle Gellar has paid tribute to her Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Michelle Trachtenberg on the first anniversary of her death.

“I don’t know how it’s been a year,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m one of the lucky ones who has over 30 years of memories with you. From our first day of filming together until less than a year later, when you were already taller than me. But first, I’m with you [dir] worked in ‘All My Children’. I watched you with ‘Harriet [The Spy]’ became a star.”

Trachtenberg found early success on Nickelodeon’s favorite series “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” before joining the cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” – and later had memorable roles in series like “Gossip Girl” and the film “EuroTrip.”

Gellar’s parting words

“You were great to my kids,” Gellar added. “Countless children’s birthday parties that you came to, although I’m sure you could have been somewhere else where it would have been cooler. But when I think of you, above all, it is that smile that filled your whole face and brought so much joy to others. You may not have been with us long enough, but we will make sure everyone remembers you.”

Trachtenberg died in February 2025 at the age of 39 from complications related to diabetes mellitus. At the time of her death, Gellar wrote, “Michelle, listen to me. Listen to me. I love you. I will always love you. The hardest thing in this world is living in it. I will be brave. I will live…for you.”

Leighton Meester remembers

Trachtenberg was also remembered by her “Gossip Girl” colleague Leighton Meester after her death became known. In an interview with Flaunt magazine, Meester spoke about Trachtenberg, who played the character Georgina Sparks on the hit CW series. “It’s devastating,” she told the magazine. “She was a wonderful, talented person and everyone loved her. It’s very, very sad for everyone who knew her.”
