Santa Claus moors, winter fair full of fireplaces, markets and more great outings this weekend in the North

It’s already November and Santa is coming. Saint Nicholas and his Pieten moor in Leeuwarden, Steenwijk, Assen, Groningen and many more places in the North. There are also plenty of markets to visit this weekend. So put on your rain gear and come and take a look at all the great activities planned this weekend.

Crackling fires and all the marshmallows on a stick

This weekend you will find a cozy winter fair in Vollenhove. At Stadspaleis Old Ruitenborgh you will find crackling fires, marshmallows on a stick, fur on the benches, lights for atmosphere and mugs full of hot chocolate with whipped cream on Fridays from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

At the winter fair you can arrange your Christmas or Sinterklaas presents and there are fresh delicacies. Exhibitors present their products in an attractive manner and with passion. The winter fair is organized by Annemarie Arends-Post from Feestje in Stijl and Hetty Baan-Bosch from Het Brievenbuspakketje.

Woolly Country Life Fair

The Wollig Landleven Winter Fair will return to the Equestrian Center in Exloo this weekend. This attractive fair can be visited on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM and offers a wide range of products, creations and specialties from more than 120 specialists. Anyone with a passion for wool, lifestyle and regional products can attend the fair.

With many activities, including tasting, smelling and feeling wool and professionals who can advise you on knitting, crocheting, spinning or anything with wool, there is plenty to do. You can also enjoy various regional products from different locations in the country, such as various Veluwe, Groningen and Drenthe products, cheese from various regions, jams, honey varieties and much more.

Flea market in the Flower Auction Halls

A flea market has been held in the auction hall of Flowerdome in Eelde for more than 40 years. The well-known market, which is open in the winter period, started in the early 1980s in the Flower Auction Halls in Eelde.

You will find antique and used items, brocante, vintage, clothing and vinyl on the market. You can visit the Flea Market on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Jan Klaassen (also) puts his shoe

The talented player from Pierewaai is a guest at Anansi and plays the new performance Jan Klaassen puts his shoe . Placing his shoe is also an exciting adventure for Jan Klaassen. Now that Sinterklaas is back in the country, he no longer sleeps an eye… The normally relaxed Jan Klaassen has made it a daily mission to find his clog well-filled by the fireplace. Of course with varying degrees of success.

Katrijn thinks Jan is a bit excessive and has made a shoe-setting countdown calendar. Then Jan knows exactly when he can put his clog. But Jan doesn’t think that’s exciting enough. Maybe he can fool Piet by always putting in a different shoe. Will Jan Klaassen succeed and will he find a well-filled clog by the fireplace? The performance can be seen on Sunday at 3 pm at Puppet Theater Anansi in Lippenhuizen.

Saints’ statue market in Veenhuizen

This weekend the Grote Kerk in Veenhuizen will be all about statues of saints and other religious objects. A group of collectors of statues of saints and other devotionals will show and sell their beautiful collection on Saturday and Sunday, which has often grown to an enormous size after years of collecting.

People meet each other during the pleasant and atmospheric exhibition; whether they have a church background or not. There are plenty of statues of saints, prayer and devotion pictures, medals, holy water containers, nodding angels, old Christmas groups, rosaries, crucifixes, pocket shrines, communion gifts, religious images, candlesticks, host makers and many other objects.

Sneup and Meuk market full of retro stuff

Retro, clothing and other gems that have emerged from various attic clearances can be found on Saturday in De Fabriek in Wergea. At this indoor vintage market you can score a new acquisition that someone else no longer needs.

In addition to all the clothing and retro items, there is a coffee corner where various tasty snacks are available. The Sneup and Meukmarkt can be visited from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sinterklaas is docking in our country again

Yes, Santa Claus is coming again. He has already mapped out his plans to fill shoes with goodies and deliver parcels to all children in the Netherlands. On Saturday he and his Pieten will arrive at various places in the Northern Netherlands.

He has different guises, so he can dock in Leeuwarden and Groningen as well as in Assen and Steenwijk on Saturday. In Leeuwarden the audience will be warmed up with a performance by Ricardo, and Santa will arrive in the Prinsentuin at 12 noon. In Assen Sinterklaas arrives at the Hoofdvaartsweg at 12.30 pm in Groningen will be moored at the KGRV De Hunze at 1.30 pm. In Steenwijk the procession will go ashore at the Steenwijkerdiep at 1.30 pm.
