Samsung is ordered to pay around $445.5 million for patent infringements, according to a jury verdict in Texas.

The plaintiff Collision Communications thus prevailed in the first instance. However, such jury verdicts are sometimes reduced in appeal proceedings.

According to Collision, Samsung smartphones, tablets, laptops as well as refrigerators, washing machines and other household appliances violate the patents across the board. Just listing the devices affected according to Collision takes up more than 15 pages in the lawsuit. The four patents concern techniques for combating interference with radio signals.

Samsung argued that the patents were invalid but failed to convince the jury. They awarded Collision Communications exactly 445,494,160 dollars (around 383.4 million euros). At the same time, they came to the conclusion that Samsung had knowingly violated the patents, which could lead to a higher payment.

In December 2023, Collision also went to court against the world’s largest PC manufacturer Lenovo at the same time as the Samsung lawsuit. This patent dispute was settled with an agreement at the end of September.
