(toskanews) – The Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought was awarded to journalists Andrzej Poczobut and Mzia Amaghlobeli, detained in Belarus and Georgia respectively. This was announced by the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola in Strasbourg; everyone stood up after the winners were announced to applaud them.
“Both are journalists currently in prison simply for doing their jobs and reporting injustices,” Metsola said.
