Sad certainty for BVB: Hummels also has Corona

After Borussia Dortmund’s upcoming opponent Arminia Bielefeld confirmed several infections with the corona virus in the team’s environment on Tuesday, BVB itself is now also affected. Two top performers will fail against East Westphalia for sure.

Both central defender Mats Hummels and winger Raphael Guerreiro have tested positive for the corona virus. Both had previously isolated themselves due to cold symptoms.

In the case of Hummels, it was initially unclear whether he was actually infected. On Tuesday evening, BVB finally announced that there were no longer any doubts about the veteran.

The hospital at BVB continues to expand: the offensive players Erling Haaland, Youssoufa Moukoko and Marco Reus were recently injured, as were the defenders Thomas Meunier and Dan-Axel Zagadou and the long-term injured Marcel Schmelzer and Mateu Morey.

However, Bielefeld is also struggling with a corona outbreak. The main focus was on “the coaching and support staff” and there were “several infections,” the club said on Tuesday.

It is unclear whether and how many players are sick, and Arminia did not give any indication as to whether head coach Frank Kramer is also infected.

BVB is not yet threatened with a game failure

BVB was only shown the effects of the corona virus on the last match day of the Bundesliga. The game at 1. FSV Mainz 05 had to be canceled because the Rheinhessen team didn’t have enough players. However, Dortmund are still miles away from being unable to play.

An application for a transfer can be approved under the DFL rules of play if fewer than 16 players are available. Among them must be at least nine licensed players and among them one goalkeeper. Injured or banned actors count as available and not in the absences.
