Sabrina Carpenter is once again exploited for Trump propaganda. After “Juno,” the White House is now using a manipulated SNL clip for ICE purposes.
Donald Trump’s team has been known for some time to use famous songs from the world of pop to promote their own strict deportation policies. Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Juno” was also used on TikTok to show and glorify ICE arrests. The pop star didn’t like this at all and took action against it.
But just a few days after the White House deleted the clip with “Juno”, a recording from the comedy show “Saturday Night Live” is now being used, in which the 26-year-old American can be seen – again the context is being remodeled for Trump purposes.
Carpenter no longer arrested for sexy but for illegal?
In the “Saturday Night Live” clip, Carenter can be seen with actor Marcello Hernandez. According to Trump propaganda, she says: “I think I have to arrest someone because they are too illegal.” This is an adaptation of the original, because the singer’s original words were actually: “I think I have to arrest someone because they’re too attractive.”
Marcello Hernandez then replies: “I surrender” and holds his hands ready for handcuffs. Sabrina Carpenter says: “You’re under arrest.”
To understand: On her last “Short n Sweet” tour, Sabrina Carpenter regularly arrested stars or fans in one part of the show because they were supposedly too sexy. This was all done with a wink, as is so typical of Carpenter’s music and performance.
Response is still a long time coming
Carpenter has not yet commented on the renewed use of her person for government advertising. She commented on the previous video in which her music was used: “This video is evil and disgusting. Don’t use me or my music for your inhumane propaganda.” Other stars whose music was used for such videos have already objected. Like Olivia Rodrigo. Taylor Swift’s music has also already been used, but there was no reaction from her, only her fan base expressed great outrage.
