The legendary football stadium is in a shocking state.
Russia has turned the Shakhtar football stadium in Donetsk into a landfill, several Ukrainian media reported.
The stadium has piles of soil, construction materials and garbage. Football24 website according to the ground material is transported to the stadium from the nearby construction site
The football sanctuary was opened in 1936 and at one time it could accommodate more than 30,000 people. The stadium served as the home ground of the major Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk, and international matches have also been played there.
Now the stadium doesn’t even have benches anymore, and the scoreboard has rusted to a ghostly state. You can see the pictures from this link.
Shakhtar Donetsk had to move out of their home stadium due to the war in 2014. Since then, the club has played home matches in Lviv, Kharkiv and Kyiv.
Shakhtar is also an internationally known club, as it managed to win, among other things, the UEFA Cup, the predecessor of the Europa League, in 2009.
