The Breda Singelloop attracted a record number of participants on Sunday. With 25,000 runners, the maximum of the sporting event was reached. In the center of Breda it was also very busy with spectators. “It was nice to run through this wonderfully beautiful city,” says John Goverde from Zevenbergen.
Goverde had just walked the ten kilometers and did not know how quickly he had to look for the hospitality industry. “I sat on the non -alcoholic beer last week to achieve a good performance today. But I got thirsty from that walking,” he says laughing. “I thought it was really a wonderful event. There were so many supporters on the side, there was a lot of oxygen in the air and we even got a charm. If you go to the sixty -kilometer, ten kilometers is quite a challenge, but I am satisfied.”
His son Justin enjoyed every meter. “I have seen many acquaintances, but we also received so much support from others. If you are tired, you just have to look around and you have enough distraction. And that in the most beautiful city in the Netherlands,” he says.
Thanks to the audience, Lars Lokers from Zevenbergen felt almost no tiredness. “It was completely full along the road. They just drag you across the finish. Now on to the beer, that’s the real thing.”

Annelot Bastiaansen and Anne Sofie van de Made from Breda also visited the cosiness after their reasons. “It was pretty tough, especially the last kilometer. Fortunately, the encouragements helped us. Now we have a nice beer and next year we will be back. Maybe at the half marathon.”

With their ten years old, Otis and Jake from Breda were striking participants. After the ten kilometers they looked fresh. “It went pretty well,” says Otis. “Sometimes we chatted something, but most of the time we were only busy running.” For Otis, gaming on the couch became the interpretation of the rest of the afternoon, Jake stayed in Breda for a while. “My mother is walking the half marathon, I will encourage it.”

Speaking of striking participants. Jaap and Eline decided to participate as a Jack Sparrow. “Just for fun, for no reason,” says Jaap. “It was pretty hard and these clothes made it nice and hot. It was the first time we participated, I did not expect it to be so nice”, after which he drank a sip of rum as a warm-up for the party in the pubs.
Maximum
The organization of the Singelloop determined that the event was full with nearly 25,000 registrations. Last year, 23,500 athletes participated, the year before 19,500. Whether the competition can grow even further will become a point during the evaluation.
The half marathon was the part in which various toppers participated. The Kenyan Philemon Kiprotich Konor won in a time of 1 hour, 1 minute and 4 seconds.
