FC Bayern takes part in the club World Cup in the USA in summer. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge now explains what the Munich team moves-and becomes clear.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge sees the upcoming club World Cup in summer as a significant source of income for FC Bayern. “It’s also about money, a lot of money, and that is a bit more motivation,” said the former CEO and today’s supervisory board of the German record champions on Saturday at an appointment of the Infinity League.
Rummenigge pointed out that the recent contract extensions in the club were financially demanding. It is therefore all the more important to use the opportunity to generate additional income through the tournament. “If you then at least have the opportunity to make a lot of money at a tournament, above all from round to round to which you get on, then you should take the chance,” continued Rummenigge.
The World Association FIFA had recently announced that it will release a total of one billion US dollars (around 930 million euros) to the 32 participants of the club World Cup.
According to Rummenigge, it is important for the team of coach Vincent Kompany to go to the tournament with pleasure. “You should appear motivated,” he said, adding: “Nobody would defend themselves against the beautiful trophy.”
With a view to the burden for the players expressed by critics, Rummenigge referred to Franz Beckenbauer: “I would like to quote my friend Franz Beckenbauer, who has always said, who has always said, preferred to play.”
The club World Cup will be held for the first time as a four-week tournament and will take place from June 14th to July 13th. Europe is the biggest contingent with twelve teams. Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are there from the Bundesliga.
