A great recovery by the Pumas puts the match back into play marked by tries from Ojomoh, Feyi-Waboso and kicks from Ford. Isgrò’s goal at the end made the English tremble until the end. Scotland landslide on Tonga

November 23 – 7.28pm – MILAN

England defeated Argentina 27-23 at Twickenham in the teams’ last meeting in the autumn international series. Coach Steve Borthwick’s team thus completes a sensational en-plein, after having already beaten Australia, Fiji and the All Blacks. However, the results of the European tour were positive for coach Felipe Contepomi’s Pumas, victorious in Wales and Scotland. However, the last Argentine victory remains dated 2022, precisely at Twickenham, which was however followed by 5 successes in a row for the English.

cynical

George Ford broke the deadlock with a drop in the 9th minute. A minute passes and on a high kick to free the 22 from the ruck the Argentinians mess up, the oval thrown back ends up in the hands of center Max Ojomoh (on his second appearance for the national team), who sees a highway wide open in front of him towards the goal, which Ford converts. The Pumas react and put the English defense under pressure, earning two free kicks which however they don’t exploit: the first at 5 meters is taken close but the forwards don’t break through, the second is kicked by Santiago Carreras (who temporarily took over from Thomas Albornoz due to a possible concussion) who hits the post. England, on the contrary, is the height of cynicism: the ball comes out of a ruck in midfield for Ojomoh, perfect cross-kick from the center to fish wide and only on the right Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, who flies uncatchable towards the goal. Ford transforms it. In the 35th minute the Pumas also finally moved the score with a placed by Albornoz. Ford misses one at the other end, then with time up the English have another free kick at their disposal, they choose to go into touch instead of placing, they build the maul well, but hooker Luke Cowan-Dicke loses control of the ball just as he is about to smash.

the pumas reaction

The second half began in the name of the Pumas, who with Justo Picardo and Guido Petti made two deep breaks to get within 5 metres, then after a couple of attempts it was Picardo himself who mocked Feyi-Waboso inside with a short pass to dive to dunk between the posts. Albornoz obviously transforms. In the 50th minute, a bad mistake by captain Maro Itoje who doesn’t let go of Agustin Moyano (who replaced Simon Benitez Cruz in midfield), nullifying Guy Pepper’s perfect save: a free kick that Albornoz scores for -4, before leaving the field to Carreras. England continues to concede and another foul in the 22 allows Carreras to score -1. A scrum free kick won in the midfield in the 62nd minute marked a reaction from the English, who from an attacking touch managed to keep the ball for 13 phases and enter the 22, but now exhausted they relied on Ford’s foot, who however sent the drop wide. In the 66th minute from another free kick England goes to launch a touch on 5 metres, the maul is stopped irregularly, but they play for the advantage, the ball opens out and a splendid offload from the ground by Ojomoh to Henry Slade, who dives in front of the posts. Ford converts and England escape. In the 71st minute another Argentine infringement on the 10 meter maul, Ford hits the posts and at +11 the game now seems to be over. Even if the Pumas didn’t give up and besieged the English goal line from a touchline 5 meters away, the English defense resisted and prevented Joaquin Oviedo from scoring from close range: however, Alex Coles received a yellow card. With 16 seconds left the Pumas find space out wide and Rodrigo Isgrò crushes, with Carreras converting for the new -4. With the red time the Pumas have the last possession but they have to move up the pitch, incredibly they manage to get into the English 22, the opponent is on his knees and concedes a free kick, touch point 5 meters away, but incredibly the ball is lost and England’s victory is safe.

Scotland by storm

At Murrayfield Scotland overwhelmed with 8 tries and the result was 56-0 Tonga. Match oriented in less than 25 minutes, first from the red card just in the 5th minute to Tongan flanker Semisi Paea, then from the tries of Jamie Ritchie, George Turner and Max Williamson, all converted by Fergus Burke. At the end of the half yellow to the Tongan second line Harrison Mataele. The islanders received another yellow card from winger Taniela Filimone in the 48th minute, they also resisted in the inferiority, but in the 59th minute the fourth yellow card arrived for the foolish voluntary forward from center Fine Inisi. The sum is worth 50 minutes in numerical inferiority out of the 60 played and at that point even a mediocre Scotland found a way to gain the upper hand with tries from Duhan van der Merwe, Ewan Ashman (2) and George Horne (2), all converted by Burke (2) and Horne himself (3).
