After Colombia’s failure to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar this year, Colombia national team coach Reinaldo Rueda has had to resign.
This also applies to Rueda’s coaching staff, according to a statement from the Colombian Football Federation.
Rueda took over Colombia in his second term in January last year with the aim of leading the South Americans to the World Cup in Qatar.
For this he left the Chilean Football Association, where he had a contract until the end of the World Cup qualifiers in South America. Colombia, however, only finished sixth behind Peru, who have hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in the playoffs against an Asian team.
Rueda, who comes from Cali and studied at the Cologne Sports University, had already been a Colombian selection coach from 2004 to 2006. His greatest successes as national coach included fourth place with Chile at the 2019 Copa America and World Cup participation with Honduras in 2010 and Ecuador in 2014.
As a club coach, Rueda won the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the European Champions League, with Atlético Nacional in 2016.
