What a drama for the makers of RTL Tonight and all the bought talk showers: the program threatens to become an epic flop. Tina Nijkamp even speaks of a ‘disaster scenario’. “Even further down!”

With a lot of bombing, RTL 4 bought all kinds of experts away everywhere, but the new late talk show RTL Tonight does not yet hit a dent in a packet of butter. After 897 thousand viewers for the premiere and 404 thousand viewers for episode two, last night only 369 thousand viewers watched the third episode, Figures show from Tina Nijkamp.

A huge number of drop -outs

This is really bad, says Tina. “Ramp scenario for RTL Tonight. It has fallen even further instead of risen. Day three and only 369 thousand viewers viewers. Just very few viewers,” she writes. “Some and very important support: in 25 to 54 years still a nice 22.9 percent. But there is also bad news about the minute analysis.”

What does that analysis say then? “The minute analysis of RTLtonight looks quite worrying. Viewers zap after Lubach (649 thousand viewers and 25.4 percent) away. That ends at 628 thousand viewers. Tonight then starts at 471 thousand and ends at 223 thousand. So fifty percent drop out during the broadcast.”

Not a good sign

This is really bad news, says Tina. “Of course, it is very late, but that is not a good sign either. It might be too much too. And Lubach over the day and then also RTL Tonight. It is still too early to wonder if this will be okay but Pooh. This is not easy. Also because there are no breaks in the store!”

If there will soon be advertising breaks in RTL Tonight, the figures will only be lower. “The contrast with Pauw & De Wit is also so large. That program even rises slightly. From 805 thousand to 810 thousand viewers. Wow. 18.8 percent in 25 to 54 years. Good start for Tim de Wit. Pauw & De Wit seems to be going to be a big hit.”

From the tube?

RTL Tonight scores worse than the Beau, Humberto and Renze programs did, according to Tina. “I just looked at what the RTL talk show scored after Lubach in the spring. Then of course it started that late. It then scored considerably higher. Around 500 thousand (often above) in March and April.”

Does TV critic Victor Vlam think that RTL Tonight is now going off the tube? He writes down X: “It is a prestige project, so they don’t just get that off the tube. They probably will shift it and it will look more like the old RTL talk show. That’s how Bar went last year, which remained throughout the season.”

Harbinger

In terms of format, RTL Tonight is very similar to RTL Boulevard, says Victor. “Only with a little more focus on news and current affairs. The failure of RTL Boulevard Summernight was actually a harbinger.”

He concludes: “The program is drowning in all sections and parts. There is no room for a real conversation. People want to offer that at the late evening, both VI and Pauw and De Wit. Undoubtedly there will be today at RTL crisis consultation about how the program can be improved. This is heading for a flop.”
