RTL secures the broadcasting rights – RBB replaced

RTL will focus even more on sport in the future. The TV giant has secured the broadcasting rights to the Berlin Marathon for the coming years.

The 50th Berlin Marathon starts on September 29th. There is a significant change for the anniversary. In previous years you could watch the major sporting event on television on RBB, but from this year RTL is taking over.

RTL is planning a large broadcast program

“The BMW Berlin Marathon is a major sporting event that not only moves the capital, but also inspires the whole of Germany,” said RTL program manager Inga Leschek. “We are therefore very pleased to be able to offer a home to another major sporting event on RTL and to further expand our sports reporting with reliable partners.” In addition to broadcasting the race live, RTL is planning extensive pre- and post-race reporting on various of the broadcasting group’s channels.

The Cologne company secured the broadcasting rights for the next three years. In addition to the Berlin Marathon, the broadcasting group also broadcasts NFL football games, as well as selected Formula 1 races and soccer games.

The Berlin Marathon should fascinate even more people

The RBB broadcast in September 2023 reached an average of 230,000 viewers nationwide. In the important segment of 14 to 49 year olds, this means a little more than 2.3 percent market share. At RTL there should be significantly more.

Jürgen Lock, Managing Director of SCC Events, explains:We are sure that through this cooperation even more people will be infected by the fascination of marathons and its positive emotions. We want to motivate people to be more active and we have a great partner in RTL Group to make this happen.”
