Sport moderator Heiko Wasser has commented on the racism incidents in the DFB Cup. His reaction ensures considerable criticism.
Afterwards, numerous celebrities spoke out on social media who condemned the incidents in Leipzig and Potsdam with clear words. Formula 1 commentator Heiko Wasser, who moderates the world’s best-known racing class for the RTL television station, also published a video on Instagram. “There can be no two opinions at all, that doesn’t work at all,” said the 67-year-old with a view to the incidents. He demanded lifelong stadium bans for the perpetrators if they are identified.
With the second part of his video about the racist incidents, however, he triggered criticism. In the same video, water also criticized the one -sided attention for racist incidents in sports. Insults against police officers in Pro-Palestine or Anti-Israel demonstrations would be too little taken into account in the public debate, the long-time RTL commentator said: “That totally bothers me.” He described the attention of racist incidents as “hype”.
His factual equation of players who are racially insulted with insults against police officers was mostly negatively included online. A user criticized water for the statement: “Police officers can stop being police officers at any time. Then the problem has solved himself,” writes a user. Water then replied in a short tweet: “… and you jump in front of a train”.
This answer also caused a few criticism, since many users put it as a request for suicide. The commentator extinguished the post and tried to talk himself out of: “Stupid replica of very stupid mail,” he replied to criticism. He only replied to another subjunctive with a subjunctive, which is why his post is not a request for suicide. A statement from RTL on the statements Heiko Wasser is still pending.
