A festive day for Kees Richters from Assen. Today he was appointed as a Member of the Order of Oranje-Nassau. The Royal Award was pinned to him by Mayor Marco Out van Assen.

Richters received the pin because of his work as a volunteer at Vanboeijen, which offers guidance and support with around 900 children, young people and adults with intellectual disabilities. Richters has been a permanent force for forty years in the activities, celebrations and funerals at Vanboeijen. He does that as a pianist, organist and singer. He also has a role in the Christmas celebrations and the walking club.

He is also active within the Protestant district municipality of Vredenoord in Assen, who merged into the Protestant church Assen at the beginning of this year.

“Mr Richters is seen as a source of inspiration and connecting power within Vanboeijen,” says Mayor Marco Out. “His unique ability to make contact with people with a disability in a warm and sincere way makes him an indispensable and appreciated power within the Asser community.”
