Roope from Helsinki makes super ripped jeans – These are already worn by many famous stars

Roope Tanska, 24, from Helsinki, dreams of a career at the top of fashion. He makes super ripped jeans in his small studio in Merihaa. It all started with “my old sewing machine”.

24-year-old Roope wants to leave her mark on fashion history. Felix Bardy

Living in Kallio Roope Denmark, 24, spent her childhood wearing colorful clothes chosen by her mother. She liked her style and believes that this inspired her to enter the fashion industry.

– I have always liked nice clothes. I believe it is thanks to my mother that I went into the fashion industry.

– When I was younger, I skated a lot. I fall a lot in skating and my jeans were often torn at the knees and legs.

Now Roope breaks jeans on purpose and sells them for a good price.

Enthusiasm for sewing was born through two coincidences. First, he accidentally enrolled in the textile line’s elective studies in middle school instead of physical education.

However, the biggest flame was ignited a couple of years ago, when he saw this old sewing machine in his mother’s corner. The sight brought back memories of classes in the textile line in middle school. Roope decided to try the sewing machine and immediately got excited about it.

– The basics learned in primary school had already been forgotten, but my mother taught the basics of sewing and all the mechanical aspects of a sewing machine.

In addition to mother’s lessons, Roope has accumulated her sewing skills by watching YouTube and Tiktok videos. She has been sewing for a couple of years, and has accumulated a lot of work hours. It takes at least eight hours to sew one pair of jeans, and he has already produced almost a hundred of them.

“The name is ironically Denim Repair”

In addition to sewing, the work steps include, among other things, getting vintage Levis from thrift shops, the process of washing the jeans, and creating a super-torn look using a surgeon’s knife and a grinder.

– Vintage jeans have that patina. There you can see a little pattern of a cell phone or when hands have been rubbed against the thighs. You can’t really create it otherwise, Roope justifies his choice of jeans.

– Jeans are the only fabric that can be refined in many different ways. I remember when learning to sew that many fabrics were really difficult to work with, jeans were not.

Roope’s brand name has an ironic resonance. Felix Bardy

Roope’s brand name is Lotto Denim Repair.

– Ironically, the name is Denim Repair, even though I just break and tear jeans, he reveals.

Such made-to-order jeans cost around 160 euros.

In addition to jeans, Roope has also produced denim trousers. He would also like to make other garments from denim.

– It would be cool to make caps and skirts now for the summer.

Lotto Denim Repair jeans have been seen by singers, among others Good luck to Boeliussinger Isaac Senen, musician-clothing designer A tourist and the designer of the vitunteija clothing brand Bakari Diarra on. These are part of Roope’s group of friends.

– Everyone kind of knows everyone in the Helsinki scene, he sums up.

Of course, Roope is also comfortable in jeans of his own brand. Today, these are the cornerstone of his style. The look of the day is always started from jeans.

– I usually wear stone-washed light jeans. There’s really a little bit of a lullaby feeling to them, Roope says with a happy laugh.

However, he doesn’t wear a cowboy hat, instead of a stetson, he wears a cap. The look is often completed by smart casual shoes.

“I dream of having my own fashion house”

Roope dreams big, as he should.

– It was great that this own denim brand, my own brand, would take off so hard that I could hire my own gang.

– I dream of having my own fashion house and being the head designer. That’s my dream. It would be cool to be able to attend Paris Fashion Weeks, among other things. It would be cool if the number one pants of the gang were made by me. It would be cool to leave one’s mark in the history of fashion, he says thoughtfully.

In order to speed up his career, he has applied to study at Aalto University. Roope still doesn’t know if he got in. In the fall, you either have to start your studies or otherwise take your own clothing brand forward.
