The roof of a company on Gesworenhoekseweg on the Vossenberg industrial estate in Tilburg collapsed on Thursday evening. On Wednesday, about 1,000 square meters of the roof collapsed and a crack appeared in one of the walls. Since then, the roof of the 30,000 square meter building has been unstable and in danger of further collapse.

The municipality announced on Thursday evening that after consultation with the safety region and fire brigade, no emergency services will be sent to the company. “Because there was already a chance yesterday that the roof could collapse, we already took measures yesterday. The gas and electricity had already been turned off and the building was evacuated.”

According to a spokesperson, no one was present in the building when the roof collapsed. The company owner has been informed and will work with the insurance company to determine what next steps are necessary.

Cross beam broken off
The fire brigade said on Wednesday that a cross beam had broken off inside, possibly due to the snow on the roof. As a result, the roof had partly collapsed and a large crack appeared in one of the walls. Because the entire building had become unstable, a specialist had to come and take a look.

Employees raised the alarm
Employees heard a gust of wind going through the building just before four o’clock on Wednesday afternoon. When they went to look, they saw the walls were crooked and they raised the alarm.

Sports halls closed as a precaution
The municipalities of Waalwijk and Dongen closed several sports facilities on Wednesday due to the large amount of ice and snow on the roofs. The municipalities of Tilburg, Breda, Alphen-Chaam, Baarle-Nassau and Gilze Rijen followed on Thursday.

All municipalities have taken the precautionary measure to ensure the safety of athletes, visitors and employees.
