Ali B’s appeal has started and during the directing session it was decided that fellow rapper Ronnie Flex can be heard during the substantive treatments. One of the sex offenses for which Ali was convicted took place at a writers camp in 2018, where Ronnie was also present. This concerns the case of the anonymous Naomi.

Not so crazy

Ronnie was orally satisfied by Naomi at this camp, when Ali B entered the room and suddenly put his fingers in her vagina. According to Ali’s lawyer Bart Swier, Ronnie did not see that this happened and he therefore states that Naomi’s statement is incorrect. He wants Ali to be acquitted of this.

Court reporter Saskia Belleman in Renze: “Yes, that Ronnie Flex did not see that, I honestly don’t find it so strange at such a moment, because of course he was just looking at a ceiling, I think, I think.”

Double cap

Host Renze Klamer finds the relationship between Ali and Ronnie difficult. “Also plays in such a witness statement that they have a friendly relationship, Ronnie and Ali B? Ronnie is also with the Management Spec, which is managed by Ali’s wife. How reliable does that make his witness statement?”

“How credible is it if you not only have a friendly relationship as friends and rappers among each other, but also as Breghje, his wife, the management of Ronnie Flex, then yes … A management often helps to prepare an artist for,” what are you going to say? “, And then you get very strange relationships between all those involved.”

Under oath

Saskia points out that Ronnie has to say the truth. “Don’t forget: a witness is under oath, isn’t it? If you lie and they would find out, then you are guilty of perception, so you have to be damn well to be careful with what you say.”

However, if no one else was there, then Ronnie’s possible lie can never be demonstrated, Renze believes. “I understand that, but because of course you say that something is often very difficult to prove in these situations and there is not only a private relationship between Ali and the witness, but also a business relationship through Breghje …”

Saskia: “That makes it more complicated, yes.”

Six months

Renze wonders if we should take Ronnie’s statement seriously. “What importance does he have to testify against Ali B’s interests?”

Bart Swier, Ali’s lawyer, then: “Ehm, he has the importance of explaining the truth. We can already say in advance that he is not reliable, but he must explain the truth. He is rightly heard under oath and he has a huge problem if he deliberately does not tell the truth there.”

What happens then? “Then it is over with his reputation and he goes into prison for six months.”
