She loves driving, she even thinks it is so beautiful that she has already made her work. At least, she now does that as a trainee. At the age of 18, Romy-Marie de Vries from Meppel is perhaps the youngest driving instructor in Drenthe.
When she was 16.5 years old, Romy-Marie got into the car and started her driving lessons. Two days after her seventeenth birthday, she got her driver’s license. Until the age of eighteen she drove around with a companion next to her. But since a few months she can go on the road independently by car.
And now she also drives around as a driving instructor. She is currently following the training as a driving instructor and she can already give driving lessons under supervision. In October De Meppelse hopes to get her diploma so that she can work independently as an instructor.
Father Oebele de Vries is the instigator of this early step in her career. He has been running a driving school in Meppel for years and secretly had the hope that his daughter also seemed like something. And that is indeed the case. The internship as a driving instructor follows Romy-Marie with her father. He guides her during the driving lessons and as soon as the diploma has arrived, the 18-year-old comes to her father.
“Unreal, but I think it’s super fun and I am really proud of it,” she says. “Although it is sometimes strange if you have to give people driving lessons that are older than you, but actually it is always going very well.”
