The defender will leave the Biancoceleste club permanently. 3.5 million deal, 6.5 million less than the first Qatari offer during the winter transfer window
A controversial relationship. Which Alessio Romagnoli decided to put an end to. The defender born in 1995 will leave Lazio to join Al-Sadd. The transfer that was proposed in January and was canceled at the last minute will now materialize, albeit at lower figures: no longer the approximately 10 million last winter, but 3.5.
THE HISTORY – Romagnoli embraced the Lazio project in 2022, when he left Milan as Italian champion. He accepted the Biancocelesti even though he had much richer offers on his plate (above all those from Fulham). He decided to wear the shirt of the team he has always supported, also receiving the promise of a richer renewal in the event of qualification for the Champions League. Yet, although he managed to take Lazio to second place in 2022-23, the improvement never arrived. This, together with the technical downsizing of the team, is the reason for the lack of confidence with which the player remained in Formello in the last period.
the breakup
—
Then in January he got the green light to move to Al-Sadd, before experiencing a sensational about-face from Lotito who was finally convinced not to lower the team’s level. He stayed against his will, but continued to play with the utmost professionalism: he scored the goal against Atalanta in the second leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final which took Lazio to penalties (which they later won). He ended his adventure in the Biancoceleste by losing the final against Inter: for him, who wanted to end by giving himself a trophy with Lazio, it was a huge disappointment.
future
—
To replace him in Formello they are thinking of Diogo Leite, a 27-year-old left-handed player (just like Romagnoli) who is about to leave Union Berlin. However, the Portuguese is also being sought by Eintracht Frankfurt, his favorite destination at the moment.
