Roger Schmidt is said to be the new coach at Benfica Lisbon. The “kicker” reports on Tuesday. After “several fruitful talks”, a signature is said to be “imminent”. The magazine did not provide a source for its information.

Schmidt, who was also a candidate at Rasenballsport Leipzig in the fall, has recently been repeatedly named as the new coach at Hertha in Berlin from the summer. So now it should be the Portuguese first division team, which is currently sensationally in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and meets Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool FC there.
The team is currently still being coached by veteran Nélson Veríssimo, who took over the team on an interim basis after Jorge Jesus was fired at the end of December.
For Schmidt it would be after Salzburg, BJ Guoan (China) and Eindhoven, where he is currently coaching the two (former) national players Philipp Max and Mario Götze, the fourth coaching station outside of Germany. He had previously coached SC Paderborn in the 2nd Bundesliga and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.
