Rod Stewart sings on stage with his sister (94)

Sibling love lasts forever – Rod Stewart knows that and takes it to heart. The singer concluded his UK tour last Friday (July 7) with a concert at Edinburgh’s beautiful Castle and enlisted the support of his sister Mary for this special moment.

The 94-year-old came on stage wrapped in a Scottish flag to applause from the audience to “Sailing”, the penultimate song of the set. She then joined the other background singers and sang along with all her might.

Edinburgh is a matter of the heart for Stewart and apparently also for his sister. Although the singer was born in London, his parents immigrated from Scotland; the four Stewart siblings all came in land of the brave to the world. His roots have always been important to the 78-year-old musician, who is also a big fan of the cult football club Celtic Glasgow.

Rock ‘n’ roll at 94

“She taught me a lot about life and will continue to do so,” Stewart said of his sister in Edinburgh. Mary then confessed to Britain’s Mirror that she loved being “still on a rock ‘n’ roll stage at 94”.

Rod Stewart’s older brothers, Bob and Don, both passed away last year. His second sister Peggy died of multiple sclerosis in 1975 at the age of 40.
