Robert Redford is dead. On Tuesday (September 16), this reports exclusively the “New York Times”, later also “CNN”. The actor and director turned 89.
As his agency of the “NYT” confirmed, Redford died in his sleep in his property in the Bergen near Provo in the US state of Utah. The cause of death was initially not announced.
Nothing is known about life -threatening diseases in recent years. However, Redford suffered from paralysis in his childhood and could no longer hear properly after filming after filming on a film. Rare characteristics that also made him a sex symbol in connection with his good appearance. Films like “The Great Gatsby” made him the epitome of the attractive but thoughtful hero, which often fluctuates between idealism and disillusion.
What he touched became gold
In the 1980s, Redford no longer only appeared as an actor, but also directed it himself. With his debut “A normal family” (Ordinary People), he won four Oscars, including for the best film and for the best director. Eight more films were added during his lifetime, including the much praised “A river rises from the middle” (A River Runs Through IT) and “Quiz Show”. With “The Horse whisperer”, one of his most beautiful films, he also made Scarlett Johansson, 12 years old at the time.
Redford acquired great merits for the cinema, who was one of the less talented, but hard -working artisans in the film throughout his life, with the participation of the Sundance Institute and the associated Sundance Film Festival. A platform that decisively promoted the independent American cinema and gave many young filmmakers the opportunity to prove themselves.
