RKC Waalwijk sees the problems in the Eredivisie increasing further. Coach Henk Fraser’s team lost 1-0 for the third week in a row, this time at Go Ahead Eagles. Due to the new defeat, RKC remains in sixteenth place, with a two-point lead over Vitesse and five points ahead of FC Volendam. Vitesse will play against Twente on Saturday.
It was a small miracle that it was still 0-0 at half time. Midfielder Willum Willumsson had the first big chance for the home team in the 10th minute, but the post prevented a goal. David Min was dangerous for RKC halfway through the first half with a ball against the crossbar.
Six saves by goalkeeper Vaessen
RKC goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen distinguished himself in the remainder of the first half with saves on attempts by Finn Stokkers and Enric Llansana. Vaessen made a total of six saves before halftime.
The goal for the home team came in the second half. After a smart pass through the middle by the Dane Sören Tengstedt, his compatriot Jakob Breum scored the 1-0 after an hour. A final offensive by RKC then yielded nothing. Min encountered goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange in the 78th minute.
