Actor Risto Kaskilahti celebrates his birthday today, Sunday. Kaskilahti, who has been involved in various projects at the Helsinki City Theater for more than 20 years, turns 60.

Kaskilahti has not planned a bigger celebration for its anniversary.

Part of the reason for this is being on the operating table due to osteoarthritis of both hips. With the operation, Kaskilahti spends his birthday mostly lying on the bottom of the bed.

– Nothing really came of anything anymore. I did go to work, but with half lights. Let’s hope that the rehabilitation will go well and I will be able to move again and get to work properly, Kaskilahti hopes in an interview with Iltalehti.

The recovery process takes longer for some than for others. Kaskilahti has set himself the goal of returning to the strength of the Helsinki City Theater in full force by the beginning of March.

Kaskilahti is known as an exceptionally active mover, so the limitations caused by osteoarthritis have naturally affected him on a deep level.

– I am perhaps a quieter man than usual these days. However, I can’t just withdraw into my shell and live only for myself. You have to take the people around you into account, no matter how much it bothers you. Everyday life and work must be done with honor, Kaskilahti states.

60 years of life

Crossing the 60-year border laundry doesn’t particularly arouse emotions in Kaskilahti. He warns in advance about a “clichéd answer”.

– They say that age is just a number. However, it is the mind that determines. If you’re an actor, you have to be childish. There is a lot to be found in Leikimi and you can go a long way with it. Fortunately, I’m surrounded by like-minded people, whether it’s work or family – we really have fun together, says Kaskilahti.

– 60 years can only be seen in the slowing down of the movement, he continues.

For the future, the actor hopes the same as for his past, but to an even greater extent.

– I expect and believe that I will be able to continue on the same path in the labor market. I dreamed that I would still be able to work side by side with different directors and texts. That’s wealth.

Although he still enjoys working, Kaskilahti admits that he is looking forward to his retirement days.

– Then there will be even more time to follow ToPo women’s 1st division basketball matches. Travel will also increase. Joy towards life takes you a long way, even if you sometimes go deep. However, it is quite unique to be able to come here to the ball in life, Kaskilahti smiles.

Publicity

Kaskilahti was previously featured a lot on television and with it also in the media. He was seen on Yle Antero Mertaranta as the second standard panelist of the Se on sätt sports quiz he hosts Jukka Laaksonen with.

The program ended in 2009, after which Kaskilahti appeared on MTV3’s Tanssii tähtien ken program in 2012.

Since then, the man has withdrawn from the television screen and focused on the theater. According to the actor, the reason for the decision is ambiguous.

Kaskilahti married Sari Puumalainen in 1997. PDO

– For ten years, I was on TV almost every day doing different things. My stomach was a bit full. I thought this might be enough for now. On the other hand, I never declared any curfew, Kaskilahti commented on his withdrawal from the limelight.

In the past, he has said that staring at people on the street felt annoying at times.

– Of course, it has decreased somewhat, but it is still more than enough. And that’s okay when the encounters are usually positive. I would say that 99.5 percent of interactions are pleasant.

Perspective

Making films is still interesting, even though the actor has not been seen on the big screen for a long time. However, Kaskilahti says that basically he enjoys performing on stage the most.

– That’s why I once applied to theater school. I’ve had the chance to try pretty much everything. It’s obviously been very successful, as I’ve always been invited along again. It’s a blessing that I’ve actually been able to experience all different genres. It strengthens me as an actor.

According to Kaskilahti, the prevailing world situation has had little effect on his personal workload or the operation of the City Theatre.

– On a personal level, you have to think about it when you go on stage, that there (in Ukraine) there is a life emergency and here it’s a full game. However, it is our job and sometimes people want to be disconnected from these more serious things. In that, we are doing the viewers a small favor, even though the admission tickets may sometimes be expensive, Kaskilahti laughs.
