Rina Sawayama Apparently Deals Again Against Matty Healy (Video)

The singer once complained about the The 1975 head during a performance. Now again with emphasis.

Rina Sawayama spoke again to Matty Healy of indie band The 1975 during a live performance in Lisbon. While she didn’t directly name the singer, her announcement didn’t leave much room for interpretation. At the Glastonbury Festival a few weeks earlier, she complained about the racist and sexist statements made by the Brit.

As Sawayama launched her song “STFU” at the NOS Alive Festival in Portugal’s capital on Saturday (July 8), the singer-songwriter with Japanese roots referred back to Healy: “Well, I’ve been thinking a lot about apologies,” she judged to her audience. “It’s funny how some people get away with not apologizing for something… For spouting racist shit. For spouting sexist shit,” Sawayama alluded to Healy. The 1975 singer spoke on the Adam Friedland Show podcast about watching so-called “ghetto gaggers” porn, which degrades women of color. Healy also made fun of people of Asian descent.

“Well, let’s try it this way,” Sawayama continued live. “Why don’t you apologize once in your life that’s not about yourself?” So far, there has been no response from The 1975’s head.
