The French-speaking police union SNPS has activated a strike notice. The riders could now opt not to participate in the national parade or to leave the parade prematurely. At least that is what Frédéric Fortunato of the police union warns about.

The decision comes after a fruitless negotiation regarding the reimbursement of extra travel costs. These are the result of the move of the barracks from Etterbeek to Rebecq in Walloon Brabant.

The current agreement provides for an intervention for one year. However, the riders want this intervention to become permanent. In many cases they now have to travel forty kilometers extra.

“About forty of the 120 horsemen came to the meeting this morning. They showed their solidarity and decided to do something on July 21. On the other hand, they are also a bit reserved because they don’t want to damage the image of the riders,” said Fortunato.
