The US military has reinstated a blockade on Iranian ports and coastal regions, marking the fourth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran.

The US military has reactivated a maritime blockade against Iranian ports while continuing to attack targets within Iran. CENTCOM, the regional command for the Middle East, confirmed that a new wave of attacks has commenced, aimed at crippling Iran’s abilities to launch attacks on commercial vessels traversing the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, over 20 naval vessels and hundreds of military aircraft are actively deployed throughout the region.

Just an hour later, the maritime blockade was officially put into effect in the Strait of Hormuz, which was previously announced by President Trump. Additionally, Trump had withdrawn plans for a toll fee for vessels passing through the strait.

Iran Threatens to Halt Energy Exports

In response to these actions, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have threatened to blockade all energy exports from the region. Iranian state media stated that as long as the “malicious actions” of the US continue, “not a single drop of oil and gas” would be exported from the area.

Tehran responded to the latest US airstrikes by targeting Gulf states such as Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. The Kuwaiti military reported that recent attacks resulted in injuries to four soldiers and held Iran responsible. They also announced the interception of a ballistic missile, five cruise missiles, and 33 drones.

Potential Escalation

The situation is precarious, as both sides seem entrenched in their positions. The US aims to ensure freedom of navigation in a key maritime region, while Iran seeks to assert its deterrent capabilities. This duality of intentions raises concerns about the potential for an extended conflict, particularly given the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for global energy supply.

Observers note that both US and Iranian responses could spiral into wider hostilities, affecting not only the regional stability but also the global economy, given that a significant percentage of the world’s oil supply traverses this critical waterway.
