He was once one of the best boxers in his weight class, but had to struggle privately with other problems. Now Ricky Hatton has died.

The boxing world mourns the loss of Ricky Hatton. The long-time world-class boxer in the world and semi-world weight was found dead in his house in the Greater Manchester region on Sunday morning, reports the “Manchester Evening News”, citing the local police. According to the authorities, the circumstances of death are not suspicious.

Hatton was only 46 years old, and he had celebrated his birthday in early October. His house was secured by the emergency services with a shut -off strap.

The Englishman caused a sensation with his wild style, pounding himself in the spotlight from 2000. In the following years, “The Hitman” world champion of the associations WBO, IBF, IBO and “Ring Magazine” in the semi-world weight, also kept the WBA title in his career.

He won 45 of 48 professional fights, lost three fights, including two much attention with the top stars Floyd Mayweather (2007-his first professional defeat after 43 victories in a row) and Manny Pacquaio (2009). In 2005 the renowned “Ring Magazine” chose him to the boxer of the year. Most recently, he was given a great honor: in 2024 he was admitted to the International Boxing Hall of Fame, the Sports’ Hall of Fame.

Over the years, however, Hatton has repeatedly struggled with many problems. He presented himself very overweight away from the fights, reported after his career of mental difficulties, family disputes, depression and drug use. He also attempted suicide “several times”, he told the English television station BBC in an open interview in 2016.

After the end of the career, Hatton also tried as a promoter and trainer. Hatton had announced a comeback just a few months ago, actually wanted to get back into the ring again in December.
