During the European Suns Festival, singer-songwriter Rick Hilberts was allowed to perform his Drenthe song live again. There were six contenders in total. The audience award ultimately went to Italian Massimo Silverio, who represented the Friulian language. The jury chose Welsh band HMS Morris as the winner of the festival with a song in Welsh.
Three years ago, Leon Moorman won the audience award at the Suns Europe Festival with his song knot. In 2017, Isa Zwart also won this prize with her song Mom see.
