Ronald Molendijk is very hard on Rick Brandsteder, who seems to be joking about his drunken ride. “You’re just a really stupid horse when you drink and get into a car.”

Rick Brandsteder was arrested by the police in early March after crashing his car ended up on the roadside. His blood alcohol level turned out to be 1.83, comparable to fourteen glasses of beer. According to Rick, he had only drunk two beers before driving, and only continued drinking after the accident while he was waiting on the side of the road for help.

Two cognacs

According to critics, it is clear that Rick is using the same excuse here as his father once did after parking his car drunk in the Vecht. He swam out of the river and went home.

His then lawyer Bram Moszkowicz recently said on television: “He was actually arrested at home and they measured his blood alcohol level and then he said: ‘I was so shocked when I drove into the Vecht that I drank two cognacs.’”

Difficult judgement

Rick is now trying that trick too. Bram: “The judge heard it all and said: ‘It is very difficult for me to assess exactly how that works. Whether you had already drunk way too much before you ended up on the roadside or whether it is indeed the case that you had had two beers when you ended up on the roadside and then started drinking.’”

He continues in the Show news from last night: “The judge then ordered an investigation and that investigation is now known, but not to us, because the Public Prosecution Service does not want to reveal anything about it. The case will continue on January 19 and then it will also be known at the hearing what the investigation has yielded. So I don’t know that now.”

Complicated

Rick has been required to perform 50 hours of community service. “That may be the case again, but the research that has now been completed will be decisive.”

Presenter Tooske Ragas is critical. “It can of course be the case, but it also opens up possibilities for people who may have evil intentions and drive with alcohol and think: then I’ll just always throw a bottle in the backseat. What a complicated story.”

Unwise trail bullshit

Bram would consider that a bad development. “I’m not going to advise our viewers that, of course.”

Colleague Ronald Molendijk sternly: “Whether he has drunk it or not: you are really an idiot if you drink and get into a car.”

Tooske: “That’s right, that’s completely true.”

Ronald: “Yes.”
