Tijjani Reijnders has been rewarded by AZ with a contract extension. The 24-year-old midfielder has signed in Alkmaar until mid-2027. This seems to put an end to the rumors about a departure from AZ.

Reijnders is one of the revelations at the Alkmaarders this season. He played all 26 of AZ’s official matches this year and did not miss a single minute. Reijnders has so far provided six assists and scored five goals.

Reijnders has been playing at AZ since 2017. He previously played for PEC Zwolle and was still rented out to RKC Waalwijk.

“As I said during my previous contract extension, I felt a lot of confidence from the club and I was aiming for a starting place. This season I took my chance. In recent seasons I have been getting more and more playing minutes and from the summer I knew that this was my year,” Reijnders says on the club website.

Reijnders: “I am happy with my personal growth and we have a special team. I have the feeling that we are capable of a lot. And I do my utmost to contribute to this.”

Director of football affairs Max Huiberts: “By continuing to work hard and seizing opportunities, he has fought his way into the team. He is becoming a decisive player. We are convinced that there is still a lot of room for development of Tijjani. This contract extension is therefore well deserved for him.”

AZ will play the first official match of 2023 tonight. Vitesse is the opponent from 6.45 pm.
