The choice begins with a quote from “Space Patrol – The Fantastic Adventures of the Orion Spaceship”, the protagonists have completely outdated first names such as Thorsten, Stefan or Kai-Uwe, their props are Walkman or an NSU Ro 80, and finally, too another song of praise was sung to the “Skafighter”, which likes to fall from the sky, an allusion to a Bundeswehr procurement scandal that not even Boomer can really remember anymore. Franz Josef Strauss anyone?
DIE ZIMMERMÄNNER SPIELEN SKAFIGHTER is first of all an inside joke: The Zimmermannen were once founded in Hamburg as a school band called Skafighter, which played ska inspired by the Two-Tone wave, but quickly grew, developed and renamed. 43 years later, the on-of-band decided to come full circle. Now men who are about to retire are playing songs they could have written as teenagers, in a sound that they could hardly have gotten so horny and rhythmic back then.
In fact, it is admirable how Timo Blunck and Detlef Diederichsen wrote more or less new pieces based on the pale memories of the works written at the time, of which there were no records, but which unerringly recreate the pointless schoolboy humor of the past. The fact that the whole thing revels in an unconcealed Westalgia is surprisingly bearable, because the boomer combo has the offbeat well under control.
