“Values readers: Inside, I recommend listening to withdrawn ears,” ME-colleague Martin Schüler wrote no flowers about the second Oehl album (2022). This meant not only the depth of the (great!) Texts, but also the somewhat blurred voice of songwriter and singer Ariel Oehl, which hides the same texts.
Oehl apparently knows about this characteristics of his sound and gave a concert tour in 2024 the unofficial title “NuschelRock era tour”. We also love ourselves in the most loving way in the hearing aisles: In a just world, the “intro” would be our all morning wake-up song, immediately afterwards the really nice “world end” (a duet with the Munich musician Ami Warning) caresses the worry lines from the forehead.
Oehl understands the art of using all rooms within a song without overloading the whole thing: here the bass plays a small fill, where the children’s song “on the wall, on the lurk” is quoted, in between someone steps on the Fuzz pedal. And if you listen well, you snap these great Oehl lines again: “The boy I was in love with at school, found me on Facebook and wrote to me right away and invited me to his wedding.” How does the story go on?
