Review: Giant Rooks :: HOW HAVE YOU BEEN?

Pop rock produced on the twelve that takes the exit towards the stadium.

ROOKERY, the Giant Rooks’ 2020 debut, was described as “terribly perfect” in this magazine. The review concluded with the recommendation to try more in the future. Of course, the NRW-based band didn’t care about such tips. Why? Internationally, it’s making waves that German acts can usually only dream of. And so the gentlemen from Hamm put on HOW HAVE YOU BEEN? experimental efforts are almost completely shelved.

Even the Krautrock-inspired “Brave New World”, one of the more interesting tracks, only breaks out of its corset towards the end and doesn’t get lost with lines like “The system needs to burn down to ashes” and “Just sit back and enjoy the ride”. just very formulaic, but just as unfortunate as the war metaphors used – especially these days, but oh well. In general, Giant Rooks are well on the way to catching up with Coldplay and Imagine Dragons with their anthemic, XL-format pop rock that contains groove, ballad-like melancholy and cheesy guitar solos. We can only hope that they don’t become just as unbearable in the long run.
