Result counts for PSV after reaching the final: ‘We are not going to look back’

The semi-final against Spakenburg was more difficult than expected for PSV. But in the end it is back in the final of the KNVB Cup for the second year in a row. Joey Veerman and Ruud van Nistelrooij therefore did not go too deeply into the game of the Eindhoven team.

A difficult 1-2 victory was needed to reach the cup final. PSV played very mediocre, but afterwards there was enough joy for Joey Veerman and Ruud van Nistelrooij.

“It was only about one thing today and that was reaching the final,” said the trainer afterwards. “If we had lost here it would have been the biggest embarrassment ever. That haunts you once. But the boys did a fantastic job.”

“That was the best day of my career”

Logically, Van Nistelrooij was not referring to the game, but purely to the result. “And that’s all that matters,” he said.

Joey Veerman’s thoughts quickly went back to the cup final last year. “That was the best day of my career. Now we can go to De Kuip again on Sunday afternoon. The sun always shines there during the cup final, so that is already something positive, ”said the Volenda player jokingly.

“Otherwise you will analyze everything unnecessarily broken”

Both the trainer and the midfielder have no preference for Feyenoord or Ajax. Those two clubs will play in the other semi-final on Wednesday evening.

All in all, despite the result for PSV, it was an evening to forget. “We are not going to look back on this. Otherwise you will analyze everything unnecessarily broken. We are in the final, that counts”, Van Nistelrooij concluded after an eventful evening in Spakenburg.
