Residents evacuated after cellar fire in residential care center Knokke-Heist

The fire started a little after 1 p.m. Friday afternoon in the basement of the residential care center, presumably due to a fluorescent lamp. There was especially a lot of smoke development in the basement. The medical intervention plan was then announced.

“Nobody Hurt”

Ultimately, 33 of the 141 residents were evacuated.

“No one was injured, but some employees had to be treated because they had inhaled smoke. The situation was quickly under control. The cellar is now being made smoke-free and everyone can go back to their room,” says De Groote.
