Rescuers compete against each other in Lifeguard Games

Also this year, each seaside resort sent a team with their best lifeguards to the Lifeguard Games in Knokke-Heist. Two Dutch teams also came to compete with the Flemish rescuers.

Current and wind complicate the assignment

The lifeguards had to successfully complete a series of tests, which included quite tough assignments. For example, the current and the wind made the sea rescue test particularly difficult. “In principle, they should be able to handle those tests easily. They are a copy of the real Lifeguard Games. Those tests are quite difficult and sustainable for the rescuers,” says organizer Filip Devos.

In the end, the rescuers of Knokke-Heist kept the challenge cup at home. Newport finished in second place.
