It is uncertain before the season finale whether Werder Bremen will be able to return to the Bundesliga immediately. However, it seems clear that some adjustments will be made to the Green-White squad in both scenarios – promotion or remaining in the second division. On the list of the SVW are following “DeichStube”-Information Union Berlin central defender Robin Knoche (29) and Brighton midfielder Pascal Groß (30). Both professionals have been a topic in the past and could switch free of charge in the summer.
Sports director Frank Baumann had explained that the Bremen team had to achieve a transfer surplus – the focus when planning the squad was therefore on professionals who were available for free. Knoche, who rejected an initial offer to extend Union, could succeed captain and defender Ömer Toprak (32), whose future is open given his expiring contract. The prerequisite for this would be the 1st league.

The North Germans will have to worry if they miss the promotion to striker Marvin Ducksch. The 27-year-old, who is committed until 2024, has an exit clause of around 5.5 million euros for each transfer period, reports “Sport Bild”. Ducksch, who wants to go to the German upper house, could still take advantage of that option weeks after the end of the season. Numerous clubs are said to be interested in the attacker: Union Berlin, Atalanta Bergamo, FC Granada and PAOK Thessaloniki are mentioned as interested parties.

The magazine also gave an overview of other personal details. If Werder had to go into the second division for a second year, this would result in another upheaval. In the event of a failure, goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka (29) and defenders Milos Veljkovic (26) and Marco Friedl (24) would most likely be hard to hold.
