Unemployed ex-national player
There is probably no comeback at FC Bayern Munich for long-time national player Jérôme Boateng. According to “dpa” information from Friday morning, the trend is that the 35-year-old will not get a new contract. However, a final decision is not said to have been made yet. This contradicts the “Picture“. Accordingly, the 2014 world champion will not receive a contract with the German series champion.

Boateng had already played at FC Bayern from 2011 to 2021. Most recently, the central defender, whose contract with Olympique Lyon expired after two years, was without a club. That’s why he could also be signed outside the transfer window.

The Munich team’s considerations with Boateng were influenced by the health situation of the three central defenders. Matthijs de Ligt (24) is out injured, but the Dutchman should be able to return after the international break. Dayot Upamecano (24) was handicapped by pubic bone problems before Munich’s Bundesliga home game against SC Freiburg (5.30 p.m./DAZN) on Sunday – remains newcomer Min-jae Kim (26), who has not yet completely impressed.
“We have seen that we are rather thinly positioned there,” admitted sports director Christoph Freund at the beginning of the week and added with regard to Boateng. “It would be his role to support the team as a back-up and – if necessary – he could then step in.” Lucas Hernández (27; PSG), Benjamin Pavard (27; Inter), Daley Blind (33; Girona) and Josip Stanisic (23; on loan to Leverkusen), who can be used in the defense center, left Bayern in the summer.
Report: Proceedings against Boateng Reason for FC Bayern’s decision
Boateng trained with FC Bayern again for the first time last Sunday. The defender was also in action on Säbener Straße on the following days. Recently, however, the public focus has been less on the athlete and more on the private citizen Boateng. According to “Bild”, this is the reason for Bayern’s decision.
Boateng is facing a new criminal trial in Bavaria because he is accused of physically attacking his then partner and mother of his children while on vacation in the summer of 2018. That’s why the footballer was sentenced in the second instance last year to a fine of 1.2 million euros for bodily harm and insult – but the Bavarian Higher Regional Court recently overturned this judgment due to formal errors and returned the case to the Munich I Regional Court. The case is therefore reopened. Boateng complained about an unfair trial and a prior conviction.
