The German cycling team Bora-hansgrohe has signed Primoz Roglic, a world-class rider for the major tours and the classics.

As team boss Ralph Denk announced on Friday (October 6th, 2023), the 33-year-old is moving from competitor Jumbo Visma to the team around Lennard Kämna, Emanuel Buchmann, Jai Hindley and Co. The team did not provide any information about the term of the 33-year-old Roglic’s contract . Roglic recently announced his departure from Jumbo Visma after seven years. Fusion plans are in the works for the team that won all the major tours in 2023.

“This is a milestone for Bora-hansgrohe,” said Denk about one of the most spectacular transfers in the history of the racing team. “Not only is he very professional, but he also loves what he does. And this love will also help him achieve top performance at a relatively old age.”

The signing, which will see the team further increase its focus on three-week tours, is likely to see a significant change in the salary structure at Bora-hansgrohe – Roglic was one of the highest-paid professionals in cycling last year.

Giro winner 2023

Roglic has been one of the absolute top riders in the peloton for years. In 2023 he won the Giro d’Italia, the Tour of Catalonia and the classic Tirreno-Adriatico stage. The former ski jumper from Slovenia has already won the Vuelta a Espana three times (2019, 2020, 2021). At the Olympic Games in Beijing, Roglic won gold in the individual time trial.

He achieved his best placement in the Tour de France in 2020 with second place. In 2021 and 2022, Roglic had to give up the tour due to injuries after falls. In 2023 he will not be part of the team around overall winner Jonas Vingegaard.
