Report: VfB Stuttgart bag new summer signing

VfB Stuttgart made a huge mess at the start of 2024 with two bankruptcies, but the 2023/24 season has so far been a huge success for the Swabians. In the region, however, people are supposedly already looking ahead. There should be agreement with a player from the league competition for the summer of 2024.

Yannik Keitel from SC Freiburg will not extend his contract in Breisgau and will join VfB Stuttgart in the summer. This is what “Sport Bild” reports.

Accordingly, the deal was “secretly” sealed; Keitel is said to have completed the medical check at VfB at the beginning of January and signed a contract.

For Keitel, the change of scenery could also represent a welcome new beginning. The midfielder, who comes from SC Freiburg’s youth ranks, became a professional at SCF in 2019/20, got more and more playing time in the following seasons and made a whopping 31 appearances in 2022/23. However, injuries have slowed down promotion this season and the 23-year-old is rarely more than a replacement.

SC Freiburg should already have a replacement on the line

The fact that Keitel is still expected to be recruited in Stuttgart is probably due to the fact that the central midfielder has proven, among other things, in 15 international matches for the German U21 that he has great qualities.

Another indication of the change: SC Freiburg recently confirmed that Florent Muslija from second division club SC Paderborn is about to move to Dreisam. “We agree with the player, he will move to us in the summer at the latest,” said SC sports director Klemens Hartenbach to “kicker”.

However, the sports club would obviously like to bring the 25-year-old Kosovo national player to Breisgau during this change period. Then the Freiburg team would have to pay a transfer fee. The change period ends on February 1st.
