Remember that stopped game where Alcides’ coach pelted the linesman with a chair? It was played this weekend

Alcides was unsuccessful against Westlandia in just 22 (official) minutes of football at home. The ten Meppel players could not make a breach in the tight defense of the Naaldwijkers, so that the ‘intermediate score’ of 2-3 also resulted in the final score.

A bizarre football evening in pocket format. A caricature of a football game passed in front of 22 players, a referee, two assistants, two dugouts with staff and reserve players and still more than 100 spectators. The first part of the game was stopped after trainer Wilko Niemer had hit assistant referee Kevin Moed while throwing away a chair.

Out of frustration about the third goal against and by accident, but the referee on duty, Mr. Midden, decided to stop the game immediately on Sunday, January 29. Despite the many requests from both clubs to play the battle the same afternoon.

Five hour bus journey

Result: a fourth part of the game had to be played on Saturday evening in Meppel. A bus trip of (twice) two and a half hours for Westlandia from Naaldwijk (190 kilometers) and back for 22 minutes of football to kick off at 2-3. ,,Five hours of travel for 22 minutes of football. It’s something. Fun is different. The warm-up takes longer than the game”, Westlandia coach Cesco Agterberg grumbled, long before the kick-off of the actual final phase of the game.

“And what can we expect. Alcides may have one man less, but will play all or nothing. It is important for us to keep pressure on the ball.” ,,We try to score a goal while playing football”, said assistant coach Dennis Meadows, who was allowed to replace Niemer again, in advance. Niemer wisely positioned himself behind the fence: ,,It is unclear whether I can sit on the bench. I wasn’t sent off and I didn’t get a red card. Have been suspended for those three matches based on the reports, but don’t take any chances and coach from behind the fence.”

New referee

Niemer saw on Saturday night that the sequel was headed by a new arbitrator; Sam Droge. The referee led flawlessly together with two new assistants, who this time saw nothing flying past or against them. The remainder, the last half of the second half, was nothing. Referee Dröge blew off after 25 minutes and 27 seconds.

,,Something extra on top of the 22 minutes due to substitutions and delays from Westlandia”, reported the Groningen player, who is whistling again at the highest amateur level after a professional football adventure. With one man less, Alcides immediately started offensively, but hardly got an opportunity that looked like a chance. Westlandia broke out dangerously twice, but didn’t make it all worse for the home club. Once Marnix Jager threatened the front with a chance of success. However, his effort went sky high. ,,I shot too fast, because I thought I hardly had time for a shot”, said Jager afterwards. “It was a shame, it was the only chance. Time was very short. When the ref blew for the last time, I thought: is it that time already?”
