The regional league game between Türkgücü Munich and the FC Bayern Munich amateurs was stopped on Saturday afternoon (11/19/22) after a police operation with pepper spray. As a spokesman for the Munich police headquarters explained, a banner with a Kurdish symbol had been shown by Bayern fans, much to the displeasure of Türkgücü fans.

At the kick-off (2 p.m.) in the Heimstetten sports park, this led to an irritated atmosphere among the opposing fans, but according to the current state of knowledge there were no physical altercations between the two groups.

Several people treated by rescue workers

The FCB writes about one “unapproved fan poster in the guest block”which had heated tempers, it was probably the banner of the “FC Bayern Fan Club Kurdistan” (see below). According to the police, the fans did not take down the banner despite being asked to do so. After folders tried in vain to get hold of it, police forces intervened.

The officers also used pepper spray and hit them with batons. Several people then had to be treated by rescue workers. How many was initially unclear. Twitter users and fans accused the police of excessive harshness.

The flag was secured. The referee stopped the game in the second minute and did not restart it afterwards. The fans of both clubs were asked one after the other via stadium announcements to go home.

“The fact that the game was abandoned can by no means be in the spirit of football – any form of violence has no place on our pitches! The sports courts reserve the right to further classify the events.”said the managing director of the Bavarian Football Association, Jürgen Igelspacher, who was there as a spectator in Heimstetten.
