Refueling turns into a cold shower: driver sees 844 euros run away

A driver of a delivery van gave himself and an Esso gas station a lot of work on Friday evening when refueling in Gassel. It has also become an expensive refueling. While filling his vehicle, the hose came loose and about 700 liters were sprayed away. According to a 112 correspondent, that cost the man 844 euros.

He had wanted to fill his tank with AdBlue. This is a liquid that is used to reduce the amount of air pollution caused by a diesel engine, thus driving cleaner.

Not injured, but soaking wet
While the hose jumped in all directions, the entire gas station and the man were soaked. The fire brigade was called in around six o’clock to clean the pump and the immediate vicinity. At his own request, the driver was given a (cold) shower. He was only wearing his underpants. The man was not injured in his failed refueling, staff of an alarmed ambulance could do little for him. According to a spokesperson for the fire service, the stuff is not flammable or poisonous and can be rinsed with water. And so that’s what happened.

It is not known how the incident could have happened. The hose may not have been connected properly or something else may have gone wrong. It is therefore not known whether the driver (or his insurance) has to pay for all costs. The gas station could not be reached for comment. The driver was also unable to make the 112 correspondent any wiser: he only spoke Arabic. By the way, he has been given overalls by the fire brigade so that he can continue his way in dry clothes.
