Record amount of deadly fentanyl in shed: 4.5 years in prison demanded

A 43-year-old man from Berghem has been sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for supplying 1280 grams of fentanyl. The deadly drugs were found in February 2020 in a shed in Eindhoven. It is the largest amount of fentanyl ever found in the Netherlands. The occupant of the house with the barn must appear in court at a later date.

Three years ago, more than a kilo of white powder was found in a plastic bag in the shed. It concerned fentanyl, a life-threatening painkiller that is also used as a recreational drug. Ingestion of a small amount can be fatal. Less than twenty kilos of this is seized in Europe every year.

The occupant of the house with the barn was immediately arrested. It concerns the then 42-year-old Frank B. from Eindhoven. Three months later, the 43-year-old man from Berghem was arrested. He is the suspected supplier of the fentanyl. His fingerprint is on the bag of drugs that was in the shed.

Conversations and chats show that the owner of the shed performed odd jobs for the suspect and stored drugs for him. The suspect also appears to be dealing in various types of synthetic drugs and commodities. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he chats extensively with someone about jerry cans and hundreds of liters of raw materials for hard drugs.

The suspect also discusses the storage of a stock of raw materials with an Amsterdam resident. When part of the stock has disappeared, the suspect threatens the Amsterdammer and puts pressure on him to give him money. “He also talks about ‘Russians and Ukrainians’ with whom he works and who do not shy away from violence,” the OM reports.

On Tuesday, the OM demanded 4.5 years in prison against the suspect and a fine of 30,000 euros. The court will rule on April 25.
