In the Spanish league, Real Madrid showed mental strength in the catch-up game against Valencia on Friday evening. Even though they were outnumbered, they managed to win.
They did it: Real Madrid is back at the top of the Spanish league table – at least for the time being. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s team now has 43 points and has relegated Atlético Madrid to second place with 41 points. However, Atlético has still played one game less than the “Royal”, who made a brilliant comeback from a minority in the catch-up game against FC Valencia (2-1) on Friday evening.
Hugo Duro gave Valencia the lead after 27 minutes. Real then increased the pressure, but national player Jude Bellingham missed the chance to equalize when he was unable to convert a penalty kick (55′). The situation further escalated when Vinícius Júnior was shown a red card in the 79th minute after an assault.
Despite being outnumbered, Real showed morale. Luka Modrić equalized five minutes from time before Bellingham scored the winner in the sixth minute of stoppage time.
