Left out for months

A year ago, Kanji Okunuki from 1. FC Nürnberg became a Japanese international and aroused the interest of Celtic Glasgow – a lot has happened since then and not for the better. The 25-year-old fell into a deep performance hole and has not been part of the squad for months under Miroslav Klose, who relies on other types of players than wingers in his 3-5-2 system. Now Okunuki is about to leave Nuremberg.

According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, which corresponds to our information, Okunuki is about to return home. According to TM information from Japan, the Franks have received inquiries from Gamba Osaka, Sanfrecce Hiroshima with coach Michael Skibbe, and master Vissel Kobe for Okunuki. The former are said to be favorites for the transfer and negotiations are well advanced. According to reports, the club is looking at a transfer fee of just over 500,000 euros for the left winger.

This would mean that the Franconians would achieve a transfer increase despite Okunuki’s sporting development, which has not progressed for months. When he moved from RB Omiya in July 2023, the attacker cost 300,000 euros. Since then, he has scored five goals and four assists in 39 competitive games for Nuremberg. Okunuki achieved its highest market value in December 2023 at 1.2 million euros.
