RB Leipzig: Tendency that Laimer stays – sports director comes promptly

Courted by Bavaria

Konrad Laimer, courted by FC Bayern, will probably stay with RB Leipzig for the time being. “There is no Basta from me. That only happens when everything has been decided. But the tendency is that he stays,” said RB boss Oliver Mintzlaff before the Bundesliga home game against 1. FC Köln (in the TM live ticker) on Saturday. “It’s not like it’s an unbearable situation for Konnie. I think that he was also very happy about Timo Werner, because the two get along well with each other. But you can’t rule out anything in football.”

Leipzig had brought back national player Werner from Chelsea this week. When asked about Laimer’s personal details, Werner couldn’t help but laugh at his introduction press conference in Leipzig. “As of yesterday I saw him, today I also saw him,” said the 26-year-old on Wednesday. “Well, he’s still here.” Laimer’s contract with the DFB Cup winners runs until 2023. He missed the home game against Cologne due to an ankle injury.

Mintzlaff: RB Leipzig’s new sports director is coming soon

Meanwhile, RB Leipzig wants to present a new sporting director “soon”. “One is coming because we need it too. RB Leipzig has a strong, athletic man, a figurehead,” said Mintzlaff on the Sky TV station. “We want the right one and we will present it soon,” said the 46-year-old, who, when asked, did not want to rule out a commitment from Max Eberl, the former sports director of Borussia Mönchengladbach. “We’re not ruling anything out today. We will present the solution promptly, I can say that in this case.”

Eberl voluntarily resigned his position as Gladbach sports director in January for health reasons. However, his contract with Borussia has not been terminated and is on hold. Since then, the 48-year-old has withdrawn from the public eye. After the separation from Markus Krösche, the Saxons have been looking for a sports director for over a year. Mintzlaff had repeatedly announced a 1A solution, but postponed the presentation.
